The Rug Project
2014-now

paradise inked

today, in an age of globalization, the question of cultural identity takes on new urgency, as cultural traditions and values are being threatened by standardized and homogenized forms of culture.

for this project, lieverse takes on persian rugs, a cultural heritage from the near east. the rugs depict flowering gardens and symbolize paradise. lieverse emphasizes this meaning in today's context by transforming the knotted patterns into facial tattoos
